Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS)

What is PBIS?

Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a process that focuses on improving a school’s ability to teach expectations and support positive behavior for all students. The three main components of PBIS are:

  • teaching appropriate behavior in all settings,
  • provide interventions when behavior expectations are not met
  • recognizing students when behavior expectations are met.

PBIS is a team based school-wide design for discipline which includes all students and all staff in all settings.

PBIS Core Values?

PBIS has three core values:

  • Be Respectful
  • Be Responsible
  • Be Safe

Students are expected to honor these core values in all school settings including the Classroom, Office, Restrooms, Pick-up/Drop-off Area, Line Up Area, Computer Lab, Hallways/Stairway, Cafeteria/Lunch Benches, Bathrooms, and Playgrounds.

What Makes PBIS different?

The focus of this system is acknowledging and rewarding students for consistent positive behavior. The Buzz Buck serves as a positive behavior recognition to encourage our students to consistently demonstrate PBIS’s core values. Earned Buzz Bucks may be redeemed on the first Friday of the month, for a variety of prize items.
